Mr. Koichi Suzuki is the CEO of Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, Nasdaq: IIJI) and he has been taking the initiative to provide the most advanced and reliable Internet environment since IIJ started its business in 1992 as the pioneer of commercial Internet services in Japan. Prior to establishement of IIJ, he had experience in industrial engineering, industrial/economic research and consultation for new business development at Japan Management Society and Applied Research Institute, Inc.

In addition to IIJ, Mr. Suzuki is responsible for other group companies including Asia Internet Holding Co., Ltd., IIJ Technology Inc., IIJ Media Communications Inc., which enables IIJ group to operate the fastest and largest IP backbone network in Asia and to furnish a full suite of network services starting with provider services and content production and ranging to network system integration. And in October 1998, he initiated Crosswave Communications Inc., in partnership with Toyota Motor Corporation and Sony Corporation to construct Japan's first data-dedicated optical network infrastructure.

Nobuyuki Idei
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Sony Corporation


Nobuyuki Idei was named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Sony Corporation, in June 2000. He had served as President and Chief Executive Officer since June 1999. He was named President and Representative Director, Sony Corporation, in April 1995.

Mr. Idei has played a key role in moving Sony into the digital age and in developing and enhancing Sony's renowned design and brand image throughout his career. He oversaw the areas of Corporate Communications and Advertising as a Director and then Managing Director of Sony Corporation from 1989-1995. During that time he also served as Senior General Manager of the Creative Communication Division (1994), Products Communication Group (1993), Merchandising and Product Communication Strategy Group (1991), and Advertising and Marketing Communication Strategy Group (1990).

With his strong background in international marketing, Mr. Idei has contributed significantly to Sony's reputation as one of the worldwide leaders in the consumer audio video industry as Deputy Senior General Manager, Video Group (1986) and Senior General Manager, Home Video Group (1988). He has been instrumental in Sony's involvement in the computer business and was a key figure in the establishment of Sony's compact disc market, and the strengthening of Sony's consumer VCR business. Internationally he was active in the establishment of Sony's European market presence, particularly through the opening of Sony France in the late 1960's and early 1970's.

Mr. Idei joined Sony in 1960 after graduating from Waseda University, Faculty of Politics and Economics. He also attended L'Institute des Hautes Etudes Internationales in Geneva, Switzerland (from 1962 to 1963). His family includes his wife, Teruyo, and a daughter, Mari. He is fluent in English and French, and his interests include golf and movies.



Takatoshi (Tak) Matsumoto
Vice President, Cisco Systems, Inc.

Takatoshi Matsumoto joined Cisco in 1992 as President of Nihon Cisco Systems K.K. in Japan. From 1992 to 1994, he headed the company into a joint corporation by attracting investment from thirteen leading Japanese companies, including NEC, Toshiba, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Softbank, and Sega Enterprises. He was promoted in 1995 to Vice President of Japan Operations at Cisco Systems, Inc. and named Vice President of Asia Operations in 1996. In October 1998, he was named Chairman of Nihon Cisco Systems K.K. (Currently: Cisco Systems, K.K.)

After receiving a Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering from Hosei University in 1966, Matsumoto started his career as a software developer of operating systems for mainframes at Nippon Electronics Development Co., Ltd.

In 1975, he joined Digital Equipment Corporation Japan as Sales Manager of Yokohama Branch and Business Manager of Tokyo Sales I Division.

His career as an entrepreneur started in 1984 when he established Insight International, a consulting firm specialized in UNIX and artificial intelligence technologies.

In 1986, he founded Nihon Sun Microsystems K.K. as General Manager and contributed to establishing its leading position in Japan's UNIX workstation market. Prior to joining Cisco, he also founded System Software Associates Japan Ltd. in 1990.

He is currently assuming the role of Vice-Chairman of Internet Association of Japan.

Jun Murai
General Chairperson, WIDE Project
 



Jun Murai is currently Professor, Faculty of Environmental Information, Keio University (Japan).

In 1984, he developed the Japan University UNIX Network (JUNET), and in 1988 established the WIDE Project (a Japanese Internet research consortium) of which he continues to serve as the General Chairperson. He is President of the Japan Network Information Center (JPNIC) and a member of ICANN's Board of Directors.

His Japanese publications include "Internet" and "Internet II" (Iwanami Shoten Publishing). He supervised the Japanese translation of the "Internet System Handbook" (Impress) and "IPv6: Next Generation Internet Protocol" (Prentice Hall) among countless others.

Profesor Murai received his Master's (1984) and Doctorate (1987) degrees in Computer Science from Keio University.
